Amazon disputes report that it raised prices of popular items since Trump took office

Amazon is contesting a Wall Street Journal investigation into rising prices on its platform. The WSJ said that, across 2,500 products, prices increased by about 5% from January 20 to July 1, coinciding with new tariff plans from President Trump.

The company dismissed the analysis as flawed, saying it failed to consider that some products were temporarily on sale at the start of the review period.

Amazon pointed to its algorithm-driven pricing system, which frequently adjusts prices and can cause natural fluctuations unrelated to tariffs.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall consumer prices in June rose 0.3% from May and 2.7% over the past year.
