At its 2024 developer conference, Apple introduced Apple Intelligence, a generative AI suite designed for mainstream users. Marketed as “AI for the rest of us,” the platform enhances Apple’s ecosystem with advanced writing, visual, and assistant tools.
The offering includes text summarization, composition, and proofreading features, as well as creative tools like Genmoji and Image Playground. Siri gains a refreshed interface with cross-app and contextual abilities, while more sophisticated features will arrive in 2026. Apple also announced Visual Intelligence and Live Translation for iOS 26.
Apple Intelligence debuted in October 2024 across iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. Initially limited to U.S. English, wider language support is scheduled for 2025. It runs on iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, and M1 or later Macs and iPads.
The system relies on lightweight on-device models for privacy and performance, while complex queries are processed via Private Cloud Compute.
Apple’s integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT extends AI capabilities to Siri and writing features. Future compatibility with Google Gemini is under consideration. Developers can harness Foundation Models to deliver AI-powered features in third-party apps.
By 2026, a comprehensive Siri redesign will anchor Apple’s long-term AI plans.
