“Bengal on Wheels” by Reetwika Banerjee is the first volume of her ‘Travel Tales’ series which presents folklores, colloquial legends and haunted stories of twenty unpopular heritage destinations of Bengal. The book cover is that of an incomplete mosque named ‘Footi Mosque’ of Murshidabad, which says a lot about Reetwika’s innovative storytelling. Travel tales with real photos of all the twenty places taken by author herself, makes it a special read.
Reetwika has dedicated this book to the Honourable CM of Bengal, Smt. Mamata Banerjee. It was launched by Mayor in Council Member Mr. Debasish Kumar and curator Reshmi Chatterjee at the BCC&i on World Heritage Day 2019. When asked about the language of the book, Reetwika said, “I have purposely chosen to write the book in simple English and not in my mother tongue so that my international readers too can appreciate our rich history, cultural past and heritage of Bengal. I am sure, after reading my book, many of them will plan their next trip to explore Bengal.”
