Google doubles down on ‘AI phones’ with its Pixel 10 series

Google is racing ahead of Apple with the launch of its Pixel 10 series, introducing AI-powered smartphones just weeks before the expected iPhone 17 release. Unlike Apple’s anticipated incremental updates, Google is heavily integrating AI into its devices.

The Pixel 10 builds on last year’s Pixel 9 AI features, including Gemini Live, image generation tools, searchable screenshots, and call notes. Google reports that Gemini Live conversations are now five times longer than standard text interactions.

New AI enhancements in the Pixel 10 include Visual Overlays, Magic Cue, Camera Coach, Voice Translate, Take a Message, and Pixel Journal. The Tensor G5 processor powers these features and runs Google’s latest Gemini Nano model.

Visual Overlays allows the AI to see through the camera lens and offer guidance, while Magic Cue provides contextual suggestions across apps like Gmail, Calendar, and Messages.

Camera Coach helps improve photography skills, and Auto Best Take selects the best shot from up to 150 images. Voice Translate offers real-time translation during calls, and Take a Message creates transcripts and suggests next steps.

Pixel Journal, Gboard writing tools, Pixel Studio screenshot updates, and Notebook LM integrations further enhance the AI experience.
