Bitchat, a new messaging app developed by Twitter and Block founder Jack Dorsey, is now available on the iOS App Store. Dorsey revealed that he coded the app’s foundation over a single weekend in early July, underscoring the rapid pace of its initial development.
The platform uses Bluetooth mesh networks, allowing users to exchange messages within roughly 100 meters without the need for mobile data or Wi-Fi. This technology enables peer-to-peer communication even in remote or crowded environments where internet access may be limited or unavailable.
Its design is intentionally minimal. There is no sign-up or account creation process — users are taken straight to a chat window where they can read and send messages to nearby devices and choose or change a display name at any time.
Dorsey has not directly addressed reports of counterfeit versions on Google Play, but he reposted a warning on X stating the app is not yet available for Android and advising users to avoid fakes.
